Awards and Recognitions

Both the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and Traveler's Choice recognize the great traveler reviews that we have received on their platform. The invaluable feedback helps us to continually evolve to meet our customer’s needs.
In 2018, Icelandic Mountain Guides celebrated two monumental awards granted by the Icelandic Web Industry Association (SVEF). The website won the two categories it was nominated in, Company Website - Medium and Best Webshop (Ecommerce).
Through the years, Credit Info has recognized us as one of the strongest companies in Iceland. This recognition is bestowed upon companies that achieve top marks in their financial strength and stability assessments. Only 1-2% of all the companies, across every industry in the whole country, receives this award. In 2013 and 2014, Icelandic Mountain Guides received the Outside Travel award for our tour itineraries in East and West Greenland. This award recognizes our high quality tour development. You can rest assured that the same amount of knowledge and experience goes into all of tours in Iceland and Greenland.
In April 2013, Icelandic Mountain Guides received the prestigious 2012 Conch Environmental Award for being a leading company in nature friendly tourism in Iceland. This award is issued by Iceland's Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources. Only one company in the whole country receives this award each year.
In 2010, Icelandic Mountain Guides received the Icelandic Travel Industry Association’s Innovation Award for creating Glacier Walk tours in Iceland. Since their inception, Glacier Walks have become one of the most popular tourism activities in the country.
In February 2010, Icelandic Mountain Guides were awarded the Icelandic Travel Industry Association’s annual Education Award for the continuous training and education we provide for our guides. Our training system has been adopted by the Association of Mountain Guides in Iceland to train and rate the standards of guides in the country.
In autumn 2009, Icelandic Mountain Guides received the Icelandic Tourist Board’s Environmental Award for our environmental policy and raising awareness about responsible tourism. Later, in 2010, Icelandic Mountain Guides were nominated for the 2011 Nordic Council Environmental Prize.
In 2006, Icelandic Mountain Guides were awarded the Icelandair Pioneer Award for designing and developing Glacier Walks. What started as a summer activity in Skaftafell, turned into a year-round and daily tour operated in Skaftafell National Park and Sólheimajökull glacier.
Membership and Licenses
In 2015, Icelandic Mountain Guides was the first outdoor adventure tour operator that offered hiking and trekking tours in Iceland to be certified by Vakinn; the official quality and environmental certification for Icelandic tourism run by The Icelandic Tourist Board. In 2024, we received the Gold-Class Environmental Certification. Only tourism businesses that maintain the highest standards in all aspects of their business practices and meet VAKINN´s comprehensive assessment criteria earn the right to carry the official quality label.
Icelandic Mountain Guides is a legally authorized Tour Operator and Travel Agency certified by the Icelandic Tourist Board under the registered name Ferðaskrifstofa Kynnisferða. Tours offered on this website are sold under the license of Ferðaskrifstofa Kynnisferða.
Icelandic Mountain Guides are an active member of the Iceland Travel Industry Association (SAF). The purpose of SAF is to protect the common interests of Icelandic tourism companies. SAF also works towards laying a professional foundation for a growing tourism market in Iceland that emphasizes quality and environmental concern.
Icelandic Mountain guides have been an active member of the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) since 2009. ATTA is a global network of adventure destinations, tour operators, travel agents, accommodations, and media partners that benefit from sustainable adventure travel markets.
The Icelandic Tourist Board has launched a project, based on a foreign model, called Clean & Safe, which can help tourism operators to welcome their customers responsibly so they can feel safe while creating good memories.
Icelandic Mountain Guides welcome this new standard and we have implemented it into every part of our operation.
In January 2017, Icelandic Mountain Guides and 340 other companies, signed a declaration on responsible tourism in Iceland.
The purpose of the project is to maintain Iceland's status as an optimal future destination for tourists by supporting sustainability for future generations.
