Responsible Tourism
Environmental advocacy and responsible tourism have been core values of the company since it was founded in 1994. We define responsible tourism as the creation of holidays for travelers who care about local communities and customs. These travelers wish to help protect the environment and we strive to assist them in achieving that goal as they explore. Along with protecting nature, we aim to add value to all communities we visit and to minimize the negative effects of tourism on the environment. We believe that small group travel reduces our impact on the environment and the local communities we might visit.
In January 2017, Icelandic Mountain Guides, along with 340 other companies, signed a declaration on responsible tourism in Iceland.
The project aims to maintain Iceland's status as an ideal future travel destination by supporting sustainability for future generations.
By participating in the project, Icelandic Mountain Guides are committed to:
- Demonstrate exemplary behavior and respect for nature
- Ensure the safety of guests and treat them courteously
- Respect the rights of employees
- Have a positive impact on the local community
