A Delightful Short Break to South Iceland’s Natural Wonders
Enjoy a combination of history and nature on this 3-day short break to some of the best sites in the South Coast of Iceland. Travel along the famous Golden Circle to visit Thingvellir National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the natural wonders of Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir, a geyser that shoots boiling hot water into the air. After an evening of rest in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, you will witness the beauty of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, take a short walk on Diamond Beach and hike to the marvelous Svartifoss waterfall in Skaftafell. As you head back to Reykjavík on the last day, you will stop to enjoy walks on the black sand beaches of Vík and Reynisfjara and enjoy a fun Glacier Walk on Sólheimajökull glacier. You will top off the day by visiting the majestic Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls before heading back to Reykjavík.

Day 1
Pick up between 8:15 and 8:45 at your accommodation. We leave the capital and drive towards Thingvellir National Park where we walk along the fault lines that make evident the rifting of the earth’s crust. We hear about the major historic events that have taken place here and come to understand why we are listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. We continue towards Geysir, witnessing its enormous eruptions before taking in the majestic Gullfoss waterfall. From there, we drive along the scenic South coast for a night in a hotel near Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Day 2
Today, we head further east to take in the vast open sand plains and the mighty Vatnajökull ice cap in the distance. Vast alpine peaks perforate the background as we admire the wonders of the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), complete with huge icebergs and sunbathing seals. A short walk away we stroll along the Diamond Beach, named after its countless stranded Icebergs. In the afternoon we will go on an exciting glacier walk on one of Vatnajökull's glacier tongues. Once on the ice field, it will feel as if we have been transported to a frozen foreign planet and we will witness stunning scenery as far as the eye can see. After the glacier walk, we will have some tome to explore Skaftafell National Park. You will also see the beautiful waterfall Svartifoss, which is surrounded by basalt columns, before heading back to our hotel.
Day 3
On our journey back to Reykjavík we take time to stop and enjoy the picturesque landscape of the South Coast. We will visit the magnificent and massive canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur, stroll along the black sand beaches of Vík and Reynisfjara, and we will take in the beautiful waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss before it is time to leave to wonders of the South coast and return to the city.

Practical Information
Can I get a triple room?
It is no problem to check if a triple room is available for you during your tour. Please send us an email to incoming@mountainguides.is to check availability.
Will we see the Northern Lights?
To see the Northern Lights you need solar activity, clear skies and darkness. The first two we cannot control but our darkest months are September to March and therefore your best change too see them is during that period.
How much luggage can I bring on the tour/can I bring a suitcase?
We recommend that you bring one piece of luggage per person. We recommend that you bring að soft duffel bag, since they are easier to stack in the vehicle.
