Epic Glacier Views & Rugged Peaks Above Skaftafell

Embark on a challenging and rewarding guided hike through one of Iceland’s most scenic mountain landscapes. Designed for experienced hikers, this full-day adventure offers dramatic elevation, sweeping glacier views, and the chance to experience Iceland’s raw natural beauty up close.

The route begins near the national park visitor centre and leads through diverse terrain, including small birch forests, open highlands, and rocky ridges. Along the way, you’ll stop at the striking Svartifoss waterfall, known for its unique basalt columns.

As the trail ascends, the scenery opens up to reveal panoramic views of glaciers, volcanic peaks, and vast black sand plains stretching toward the Atlantic. Depending on conditions and group pace, the hike may continue toward a summit ridge or focus on the stunning viewpoints along the way.

This demanding 18 km circular route includes approximately. 1215 meters of elevation gain and typically takes 6–8 hours. It is only suitable for hikers in excellent physical condition.
