Snowmobile and Glacier Kayaking South Coast Combo
On this tour, you start with a snowmobile ride on Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and then explore the icebergs of Sólheimajökull Glacier Lagoon on a kayak. Your day begins at our Mýrdalsjökull Base, where you meet your snowmobile guide and dress up before heading up to the ice cap in a real glacier truck (30 min each way). You will board the snowmobile and head to the top of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier there. You will get plenty of opportunities to photograph the scenery and enjoy the fantastic South Coast views.
After the snowmobile tour, you must travel on your own to our base at Sólheimajökull. You will get detailed driving instructions on your voucher if you book the tour. There, you meet up with your expert guide and get geared up for the kayaking part.
The kayaks are stable sit-on-top kayaks, and no prior experience is needed, but your guide will give you a thorough tutorial before you head out to the lagoon. There, you will paddle between majestic icebergs that have broken off the outlet glacier and enjoy panoramic views of the glacier and the mountains surrounding it.
Please note: All drivers must be 17 years of age or older and have a full, valid driver's license. According to Icelandic law, a learner´s permit, tractor, or motorcycle license is not sufficient. There you will get a short briefing about the tour and be fitted with all the equipment needed for the tour (warm overall, balaclava face mask, helmet). Next, you will board the glacier truck that will take you up the mountain (about 30 min) to the ice field, where we find the snowmobiles.
There your guide will explain to you how the snowmobile works and how to ride it in a safe and fun way. After about 1,5 hours of snowmobiling, we go back down in the glacier truck (about 30 min) to the Mýrdalsjökull Base Camp.
Second tour: Glacier Lagoon Kayak
After the Snowmobile tour, you must travel to the location of your next tour by yourself. It takes approx—10 minutes to drive the whole way. Please be ready for your second tour at least 20 minutes before departure; you have one hour to spare between tours.

Practical Information
Why do I need to arrive 20 minutes before departure time?
Before we head to the glacier for the tour we need to get everyone fitted with the equipment, crampons and harnesses. The crampons need to be adjusted to each persons shoe size so it is important that people arrive 20 minutes before so everyone is ready at the departure time.
What is the address of the meeting place?
There are no official addresses on our meeting points but you can see directions and GPS points if you click the map above.
How is best to dress for a kayaking tour?
We recommend a long sleeve clothing in order to separate your skin from the dry suit. Avoid bulky clothing they might restrain your ability to put on the dry suit. Usually worrying about temperature is unnecessary since this is a summer tour and also guests need to walk to the lagoon and paddle during the tour. Extra socks might come in handy if your feet get wet. Also for more information you can have a look at our equipment list.
How long in advance do I need to book?
We always recommend to book as soon as you are ready especially if you have a strict travel schedule or a large group. It is easy to change or cancel 24 hours before departure by emailing us (info@mountainguides.is). Tours can also be purchased the day of as long as there are spaces available.
How are the guests divided between kayaks?
Icelandic Mountain Guides have taken out extra fee for single use of kayak. There is a maximum to how many kayaks can be on each tour per guide. The guide will for each tour find out the best solution according to the ability and interest of the group.
