Glacier hike on Sólheimajökull

First tour: Glacier hike

The second adventure of this combo tour starts at Sólheimajökull Base Camp. You must get there on your own. See the location on Google Maps. Please be ready for your tour at least 20 minutes before departure.

At Sólheimajökull Base, you meet your certified glacier guide and get the necessary glacier gear (crampons, ice axe, and harness). When your group is ready, you walk down to the glacier's edge, which takes about 15 minutes.

After a safety briefing, your guide will lead you around the glacier tongue, with stops at the most impressive sights. You will see deep crevasses, tunnel and cave formations, and a spectrum of ice ranging from deep blue to white to pitch-black ice. At the end of the tour, you head back to shore and walk together to Sólheimajökull Base, where you can enjoy complimentary tea and coffee.
