The Perfect Winter Day Tour Combo of a Glacier Walk & the Northern Lights

On this day tour, we combine two winter highlights, a glacier walk and a search for the spectacular Aurora Borealis for an amazing day out in nature. We start by heading to the Sólheimajökull glacier, where we enjoy a safe and easy Glacier Walk up onto the ice field. As we explore all the features of the glacier such as water cauldrons, crevasses, ridges, and waterways, we learn about the history and formation of Icelandic glaciers. After the Glacier Walk, we head to the powerful Skógafoss waterfall before we enjoy a traditional Icelandic dinner at a local restaurant. As we head out into the night looking out for those magical Northern Lights, we pay a mandatory stop at the lit up Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

If no northern lights are seen you have a change to re-book a minibus Northern Lights Tour with one of our partners subject to availability. Please contact our Sales and Service department.

Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, therefore sights cannot be guaranteed.

Everything about our hike was a thrill -- the geology, the ice caves, the glacial lake, and learning how to walk with crampons. I loved every minute and would do it again in a heart beat. The waterfalls we saw on the way, the outstanding dinner of lamb soup, and the northernlights above Seljalandsfoss waterfall are etched in my memory, and places I return to time and again in my mind for the sheer beauty and solitude they offer. I cannot say enough good things about our guides that day

Day Tour

The tour begins with your expert guide picking you up in Reykjavík and taking you on 2 hour drive with picturesque scenery to Sólheimajökull glacier.

At the glacier, you will gear up with an ice axe, crampons and a harness. Your glacier guide will provide a short safety briefing before you go on the Glacier Walk.

After marvelling at the ice sculptures, crevasses and surrounding landscape, your guide will drive you to see the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall nearby.

During your previous activities on this day, you would have worked up quite an appetite. Before heading off to see the Northern Lights, you will enjoy a traditional Icelandic dinner at a local restaurant.

When does the pick up start?

The pick ups starts 30 min before your tour's departure time. Please be ready at your bus stop in time.

What happens if we don't see the Northern Lights on the tour?

Because the northern lights are a natural phenomenon we can never guarantee seeing them. We have designed our tours so that you will have a fun and fulfilling day regardless of the northern lights. The northern lights hunting takes place at the very end of the tour and if we see lights that will be great but if not, you will still have had a fantastic day. But if we don't see the northern lights we will try to book you on other Northern Lights Tour the following days. These tours will only be focusing on the search for Northern Lights. Please contact our Sales and Service representatives in order to book such a tour .
