South Iceland Summer Getaway

Reykjavík – Glacier Walk - Skaftafell

Day 1

After your driver guide picks you up at your accommodation (08:30 am) in Reykjavík, you will head East towards the picturesque south coast. The more East we get the more stunning the scenery becomes. Numerous waterfalls tumble down from steep cliffs and giant glaciers and vast black deserts form a sharp contrast. On the way, we will stop for an exciting glacier walk on Sólheimajökull or Falljökull. We stop at the picturesque little village of Vík at the foot of the Icecap Mýrdalsjökull before reaching our luxurious 4-star hotel in time for dinner (not included).

Icebergs and Black Sand Beaches

Day 2

Today we head further east, taking in the vast open sand plains and the mighty Vatnajökull ice cap in the distance. Vast alpine peaks perforate the background as we admire the wonders of the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), filled with huge icebergs and sunbathing seals. A short walk away we will explore the Diamond Beach, named after its countless stranded Icebergs. The afternoon includes a visit to the National Park Skaftafell with a short hike up to the beautiful waterfall Svartifoss surrounded by basalt columns. As we drive back to Reykjavik we have the time to stop and take in some of the wonders the South coast is waiting to reveal. The black sand beach of Reynisfjara meets us first where we witness the raw power of the Atlantic Ocean. Further along, we witness the majestic waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss before returning to Reykjavik in late afternoon/early evening.

It is no problem to check if a triple room is available for you during your tour. Please send us an email to incoming@mountainguides.is to check availability.

To see the Northern Lights you need solar activity, clear skies and darkness. The first two we cannot control but our darkest months are September to March and therefore your best change too see them is during that period.

How much luggage can I bring on the tour/can I bring a suitcase?

We recommend that you bring one piece of luggage per person. We recommend that you bring að soft duffel bag, since they are easier to stack in the vehicle.
