The absolutely incredible scenery! I am from Taiwan, and we have a great mixture of urban metropolis and nature, but I have never seen such the scenery as I have in Iceland. The Glacier Lagoon, ice cave and glacier, they all make me feel like Iceland is a totally different planet.

Northern Lights & Ice Cave Adventure

South Coast with Glacier Walk and Ice Cave exploration

Day 1

After your driver guide picks you up at your accommodations in Reykjavík, you will be whisked out of the capital and headed east towards the picturesque south coast. The further east we get the more stunning the scenery becomes. Numerous waterfalls tumble down from steep cliffs and giant glaciers and vast black deserts form sharp contrast. We stop at the picturesque little village of Vík at the foot of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull and we will go on an exciting glacier walk and explore an ice cave before reaching our luxurious 4-star hotel in time for dinner (not included). In the evening we will be on the lookout for the magical lights of the winter sky, the Aurora Borealis, hoping they will make an appearance for us.

Icebergs, Black Beaches, Plane Wreck

Day 2

After breakfast we continue further east to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon filled with huge floating icebergs that have broken off from the glacier. Here we also get to see the diamond beach where icebergs appear as diamonds on the black sand beach. After having admired this spectacle of ice and water we will. In the afternoon we start our journey back to Reykjavik. On the way we take time to ramble along the black beach of Reynisfjara, being aware of the huge and powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean, take a picture of the famous plane wreck and to take a close look at the beautiful waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss before returning to Reykjavik in late afternoon/early evening.

Please note that due to unpredictable weather conditions during winter, the itinerary of this tour might be reversed or changed. Ice Cave visits and Glacier walks are sensitive to weather conditions and can be replaced with other activities if needed. While it is our goal to deliver the best tour experience possible, the safety of our passengers is always our priority.

It is no problem to check if a triple room is available for you during your tour. Please send us an email to incoming@mountainguides.is to check availability.

Will we see the Northern Lights?

To see the Northern Lights you need solar activity, clear skies and darkness. The first two we cannot control but our darkest months are September to March and therefore your best change too see them is during that period.

How much luggage can I bring on the tour/can I bring a suitcase?

We recommend that you bring one piece of luggage per person. We recommend that you bring að soft duffel bag, since they are easier to stack in the vehicle.
